We take in Toxins everyday
|
|
|
|
One of the greatest ironies of
life is that, to stay alive, we are actually taking in the very toxins and
poisons that could eventually kill us, unless they are effectively eliminated
from our bodies.
Every second of the day, toxins enter our bodies through normal
like-sustaining activities like breathing, eating and drinking. Pollutants,
chemicals and even drugs enter our systems and build up to extremely
dangerous levels as the years go by.
The convenience and technology of modern living has, unfortunately,
contributed to a huge increase in the amount of toxins that enter our body.
Smoking, alcohol junk and processed food, lack of exercise and a stressful
lifestyle could turn our bodies into human garbage cans.
An overload of toxins in the body often leads to chronic
illness and pre-mature aging. Some of the ill effects are decreased immune
function, hormonal dysfunction, chronic fatigue, obesity and lethargy,
including a predisposition to cancer.

The body's Detoxification channels
|
|
|
|
The human body is actually
designed to detoxify itself and in a healthy individual, it does its work extremely
well, eliminating most wastes from the body system.
In fact, there are six major systems in our body that eliminates toxins and
harmful by-products: the skin, the liver, the kidneys, the lymphatics, the
lungs and the large intestine (colon).
- The Liver
This powerful organ is the body's main filtering system. In an ideal
situation, its function is to get rid of all toxins in the blood stream
as it passes through the organ. However, when there are too many toxins
in the body, giving rise to many conditions and diseases.
- The Lymphatic system
Most people don't think about their lymph nodes until something happens
to them. In fact, the lymphatic system is the body's front line defense
against foreign invaders. It acts like a sponge and mops up all toxins.
Again, when there are just too many toxins, this system breaks down and
diseases like Hodgkin's and lymphoma result.
- The Skin
Waste material is eliminated from the body via perspiration through the
swear pores in our skin. If there is an overload of toxins in the body,
the body's immune system breaks down, giving rise to many skin
conditions like psoriasis and eczema.
- The Kidneys
The kidneys are a crucial detoxifying organ, as it gets rid of waste
through the urine. Kidneys also help to regulate the amount of water,
essential salts like sodium and potassium in the body. The kidneys'
function is so vital that when it fails, external cleansing has to be
conducted in the form of dialysis, otherwise the body dies of poison.
- The Lungs
Apart from the skin, our lungs are the next largest organ that is in
constant contact with the air and the environment. The lungs perform the
key role of filtering gases in and out of our bodies and respiratory
tract diseases are very often related to an overload of toxins in the
body.

The Colon: The body's main Sewerage system
|
|
|
|
By far, the most important
detoxification system in the body is the large intestines, or the colon. This
is in fact where it all starts. The colon, a muscular tube, about 1.5m long
in an average adult, is where toxic waste... that is all the rubbish that is
left over after the good stuff has been absorbed by the small intestines...
is expelled from the body. It is responsible for removing the largest
volume of waste in the body.
However, this
waste removal is never complete. A diet high in saturated fat and a sedentary
stressful lifestyle introduce an inordinate amount of poison into the body.
This overworks the colon so much that it is simply not able to remove excess
toxins efficiently. A significant amount of waste material is left behind,
often leading to encrustation (waste material is lodged firmly onto
the walls of the colon), a condition that is detrimental to health. The toxic
material then actually ferments and becomes even more toxic. Toxins
are re-absorbed into the body, which gives rise to auto-intoxification...
the body begins to poison itself!
